My journey of graduating from being a cosmetics gypsy | Episode 5: If 4,200 yen doesn't work, then 20,000 yen

This is a series of posts I wrote in my email newsletter back in my mid-30s, titled "My Story of Graduating from Being a Cosmetics Gypsy," which I'm now republishing for my official blog.

What were the motivations behind the creation of Mirobina, and why did they end up with skincare products made from natural ingredients?

We will leave behind written materials to convey the background information that cannot be fully expressed on the product page alone.

All 15 episodes are being released sequentially.

I really want to be beautiful

To our regular subscribers,
For first-timers,

Hello.
This is Nonko, the shop manager of Aromatic Life Magic Soap (*^_^*)

Now then!

This is the story of how I came to open my Aromatic Life Magic Soap (now called Mirobina).

I desperately wanted to use a 38,000 yen cream from a certain French cosmetics brand that I admired at the time, so I reluctantly took a job at that company, driven by the desire to "use their cosmetics as much as I want"...

That's where we left off last time.

Since I started using cosmetics in college, I've been able to address not only acne, but also dullness, sagging, enlarged pores, and rashes.

My skin problems kept increasing, and I was at the mercy of my skin troubles,

After landing a job at my dream cosmetics company, I wanted to learn even more about skincare, so I attended lectures and studied diligently.

Discover the inner workings of the beauty industry.

I did the massages and face masks I learned every day, and I worked really hard!

And for three years, I worked diligently as a beauty consultant in department stores and cosmetics counters, wanting to solve customers' problems!

But despite that enthusiasm, the reality of the job is...

For those who haven't seen much effect from a 4,200 yen whitening cream, I recommend a 20,000 yen cream next.

But for those who still can't do it (which is mostly the case),

Wow!

Next, we'll hold a special skincare counseling session, inviting senior executives from the company to come in as beauty counselors.I recommend this 50,000 yen 1-week intensive beauty serum!

So, you all actually buy this, huh?

The phrase "strong selling pressure"

In reality, that counselor's skin wasn't particularly beautiful. Her pores were open, her skin texture was rough, and she probably hadn't completely removed all the dirt, so her skin was dull.

However, she has a great personality, is cheerful, kind, intelligent, and is also beautiful and stylish!

When someone like that explains it logically and says, "It will definitely make your skin beautiful, all you need is courage," it seems like you feel like you have no choice but to buy it.

But the most important thing is communication. Surprisingly, beauty consultants rely more on their communication skills than their own skin. A logically convincing explanation is necessary to sell skincare products, and the beauty consultant who first invited me to join her, although she looked like an older woman, had amazing communication skills!

If you think about it calmly, if the skin of the person in front of you is far from your ideal, you'd probably think, "I can't believe it," right?

But people who are good at talking can sell even such extremely expensive products regardless of that. The buyers weren't so much wealthy as just ordinary people.

However, I'll explain in more detail next time why cosmetics costing 20,000 yen or 50,000 yen actually sell!
