This is a series of posts I wrote in my email newsletter back in my mid-30s, titled "My Story of Graduating from Being a Cosmetics Gypsy," which I'm now republishing for my official blog.
What were the motivations behind the creation of Mirobina, and why did they end up with skincare products made from natural ingredients?
We will leave behind written materials to convey the background information that cannot be fully expressed on the product page alone.
All 15 episodes are being released sequentially.
I really want to be beautiful
To our regular subscribers,
For first-timers,
Hello.
This is Nonko, the shop manager of Bi-Natural (formerly Aromatic Life Magic Soap) (*This was the original name of this shop) (*^_^*)
Alright!
My journey as a cosmetics wanderer is reaching its climax. Back in my teens, when I was struggling with acne, I found a cosmetics counter at a department store in Shinjuku...
"Oh dear, what happened to your skin? Let's make it beautiful with this."
Ever since that conversation, even though my skin didn't actually get any better, I became increasingly obsessed with skincare cosmetics, thinking, "I want to make my skin beautiful with cosmetics!"
Looking back now, I realize I was being manipulated by information in magazines and such, but I actually ended up becoming a beauty consultant.
After working there for three years, I felt a sense of incongruity because things weren't getting any better, and one day I suddenly decided to quit.
A sudden declaration: "I want a divorce!"
Just when I had settled into a life of childbirth, raising a child, and attending aromatherapy school, my younger husband suddenly declared, "I want a divorce!"
W-w-what?!
What do you think you're saying to me, while I'm desperately making dinner with my one-year-old son on my back? The sunset was so beautiful it hurt my eyes...
My husband was originally a passionate person who would say things impulsively, so I decided to give us some time to cool down and went back to my parents' house... which resulted in us being separated for about a year.
In the end, I gave in to my husband's pleas, who said, "Looking at the cherry blossom trees, I realized that family is what's truly important, and it brought tears to my eyes," and I went back.
But for me, the price was high...
The beginning of hell
Due to the high level of stress during that time, I developed a very itchy rash, which wasn't diagnosed at the time but was identified later.
Then, as soon as my second child was born, that tiny bit of eczema suddenly flared up spectacularly and became a huge mess!
My eyelids are red and swollen, and I can't even wear contact lenses.
My face and neck were covered in numerous red, dry, eczema-like rashes.
And the worst part was that all over both my arms and from my ankles to my hips, there were tiny, 2cm (!!) bumps, incredibly itchy, bright red rashes.
There were so many, so many, so many piles up, packed tightly together, that you'd think there could be a little more space between them. Wow, it was a truly chilling sight.
In short, this is a "torturous itching hell that drives you mad."
It is getting progressively worse.
Even after that, I was itchy when I tried to sleep, and I couldn't sleep because I was scratching and scratching.
I woke up in the morning because of the itchiness, and I couldn't get up because I couldn't stop scratching.
Whenever I take a bath, I'm hit with an intense itch all at once, my face turns bright red, and I scratch myself like crazy. It's a bit gross, but after I get in, the water becomes cloudy and whitish with all sorts of things floating in it.
The other children who bathe with me are always worried and will say things like, "I made some medicine," and pour warm water from a toy container over me. I appreciate it, but...it makes me itchy!
When I get out of the bath, a large amount of fluid oozes out of all the bright red eczema, and I frantically wipe it all over with tissue while still naked.
I managed to slip in a moment of distraction, then spent 30 minutes covering everything with gauze and holding it in place to prevent the liquid from dripping. My body was completely chilled by then.
A hell with no end in sight
When I'm doing something that requires concentration, like driving, the itching gets worse and I end up scratching my arms. Then, dry, white, dandruff-like flakes fall off my arms...
Watching that, I felt as if I, who had been healthy until then, had become a completely different person, and anxiety and sadness overwhelmed me.
And so, the eczema not only didn't get better, but it became a living hell, so what started as a weak steroid eventually became the strongest one, but even that eventually stopped working!!!
Oh no, I can't take it anymore! I panicked.
to be continued!
